Lykke Friis at Annalena Baerbock's Ministerial Conference

The director of Think Tank EUROPA was among the speakers at a conference organized by the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock about EU enlargement held in Berlin on November 2nd.

The war in Ukraine has given a new momentum to the enlargement of the EU. At the European Council summit in December, EU's heads of state and government will decide on the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. The question of EU enlargement has also sparked a discussion about how the EU will be ready to take in new members and what global role the EU will play in the future.

As a prelude to the summit, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a conference for European ministers and diplomats on 2 November: A larger, stronger Union – making the European Union fit for enlargement and future members fit for accession. The German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was the keynote speaker, and she participated in a panel discussion with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, North Macedonia's Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani and Slovenia's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Europe Tanja Fajon.

The director of Think Tank EUROPA Lykke Friis was among the speakers as a representative of an expert group.
