EU's udvidelse

Towards a New EU Enlargement?

9 November 2023 15.00 - 17.00
Udvidelseskonference

On November 8, the Commission will reveal whether it will recommend that the EU initiate accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. We will follow up the next day with this conference on what it takes for the EU and the candidate countries to prepare for a new enlargement.

Each year the European Commission presents an enlargement package which assesses the state of play and the progress made by candidate countries and potential candidate countries on their respective paths towards the European Union. This year the assessment is expected with more excitement than usual as the Commission might recommend opening membership negotiations with some candidate countries, notably Ukraine.

But becoming a member of the European Union is not a simple task. First, a candidate country must fulfill a number of criteria, and secondly on its side the EU also has to be ready to enlarge.

This conference will present the Commission’s enlargement package 2023 and discuss how the last big enlargement in 2004 took place and what is different this time around.

Speakers include: Gert Jan Koopman, Director General, DG NEAR (on videolink), Dr. Lykke Friis, director Think Tank EUROPA, German Ambassador to Denmark, Pascal Hector, French Ambassador to Denmark, Christophe Parisot, Sinne Conan, Finans Danmark, Niels Lindberg Madsen, Landbrug og Fødevarer and Johan Moesgaard Andersen CO-I
