On May 10 Think Tank EUROPA is proud to host Asli Aydıntaşbaş, associate senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, who will lay out what is at stake in the Turkish elections and why she thinks they could be the most important elections of 2023.
As a member of NATO and the OECD, Turkey is a strategic ally of the EU, but the relationship faces on-going challenges, from disunity over sanctions on Russia to migration pressures and tensions between Greece and Turkey. How does Turkey position itself in the new geopolitical landscape after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and what potential for change do the elections hold?
Before joining the ECFR, Asli Aydıntaşbaş worked for many years as a journalist in Turkey and the US. She is currently a Global Opinions columnist at The Washington Post as well as a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution.
